I See You

ISeeYou.jpg

Hello?

Are you Listening?

Yes, you.... the one reading this post.

I think we need to talk.

I hear that you are not going as big as you should be and that you are frustrated your not already there.

I hear that you get all fired up that you will go big as hell then life happens. Things get in the way, and then everything just goes to hell in a handbasket.

Guess what, you are not alone. I mean it.

Most people struggle with this. How do I know? Look around.

What do you see?

A bunch of people walking through life on autopilot. They look lost, confused, and stuck.

But not you. Know how I know? I see you.

I see you dreaming, wishing and hoping.

I see you looking for more and fighting to go for it.

That's a solid start. Now you have run.

RUN!

Run like your tail is on fire. Through a log on your internal flame and go for it.

Not sure how? Need a little help?

It's OK I got you. How about we jump on a call for an hour and we see if we can figure out what you need to run towards?

GO ahead you can schedule it here. Schedule a Call

Know where you want to run to but a little unsure what steps to take. I got you. Lets set up that call. Schedule a Call

Already running and need a kick in the ass. Ya, I got you too. Schedule a Call

RUN LIKE HELL!

Donnie

Are You All In?

Are You All In?

You know you want more. You envision yourself being more. Why not go big as hell and see what happens?

You Do Not Fail

Warning.jpg

First time I heard the phrase you do not fail I Laughed. Confidently I responded, “Everybody fails sometime.”

Then my coach looked at me and said. “You do not fail you give up trying.” It was the uppercut for the knockout I wasn’t expecting. I think I sat there for a couple of minutes before responding. I realized he had described different parts of my life with one sentence.

That conversation changed my life. If you never stop going for it then do you indeed fail? Sure you learn some good stuff along the way. You learn how not to do something and learn how to do something better. That’s called life not failure.

For me, it wasn’t until later in life that I learned this lesson. My lifestyle was if life wasn’t going right then get out.

- At 18 not knowing what to do with my life I ran to the Marine Corps.
- At 22 with no direction, I ran to Saint Louis, Mo.
- At 25 with no path and my tail between my legs, I ran back to Texas.
- At 28 I started a website company, one client complained, and I shut down the company. (We took a job we shouldn’t have in the first place)

Every time life got tough I removed myself from the situation. I thought that if I got out of there, then I would get passed whatever was uncomfortable or at least get away from it.

Now I realize most of those times I was giving up. I gave up on learning experiences I would have to learn later. When life gets difficult, it means you leveled up. It means you now have to learn a new level of badassery. You have to learn new skills and talents. You have to get after it.

The universe will throw things your way to teach you life lessons. It will never throw you more than you can handle so be strong and persevere. When you come out on the other side I promise you will look back and go wow that wasn’t so bad.

1 Trick to beat a Mundane Life

Boring.jpg

For a lot of my career, I played it very safe. Taking jobs right in front of me instead of taking on my next adventure. I didn’t work to succeed I worked to survive.

It wasn’t until in my 30’s that I realized I was living life by default and not design. My time was not my own it belonged to others. I spent a good portion of my career making others wealthy while I moped through life. I would daydream for better but couldn’t find it in me to go for it.

Society has people pegged as a whole. It knows how to keep you in your station. It knows how to keep you complacent and distracted from your destiny. It knows how to throw shining objects in your path everytime you step out of line.

Not recognizing that you are playing someone else’s game now that’s risky. It’s also scary. It’s like your life is a black & white movie during the depression. Head down shuffling your feet looking for anything that could bring you food. Playing it safe ensures you never go after your dreams it means you never go big.

How do you fix it? Take a different risk. Do something that scares you not just to do it but to learn. Do something that challenges you not to scare you but to learn. A risk is a learning opportunity. It is a chance to become more educated than you were before. It gives you a shot at learning how to do something. Knowledge is power, but it is only power when you do something with it.

This world is full of smart people living mundane lives. Don’t let that be you. Go for it, challenge life and learn every day. Learn skills, processes, and abilities that allow you to go further. Rise up and be the phoenix of your life and watch what happens. If your life is dull, boring and black & white, then shake it up. We get one shot on this rock make it a good one.

Oh and one last thing, you want to really go big then do the biggest thing that scares you. Then look at the world saying hold my beer and watch this shit.

3 Steps to Success. 2 Steps Forward 1 Step Back

Success.jpg

I learn something new every day. Sometimes its knowledge from books and people. Sometimes it’s from screwing things up. I have found that success is a goal and it steadily moves.

There are absolutes to success. Three significant steps to become successful. Are you Ready?

Step 1: Define Success. What does success mean to you? How does it look? How does it feel? What does it sound like? How does it taste? You must put a solid definition of success to know how to get there. Often people put success as fame and fortune, but they don’t define it for themselves. You must Define success so powerfully that you can already feel like you have achieved it. When you tell others what your success is, they should feel your passion in obtaining it.

Step 2: Work your ass off. I get visioning boards, mantras, and positive self-talk and I won’t say don’t use them. If they work for you, then, by all means, go for it. The truth behind all of that motivational jargon is that if you are not taken massive action and diligently working your ass off, then they will never work. Success is a lot of constant work and continued repetitions. Get after it and go big. Use self-talk, Mantras and anything else you want as long as you are working harder than the persons next to you.

Step 3: Learn to take 1 step back. Embrace that you are going to screw up. You are going to make mistakes, and you are going to break shit. Failure is the nature of success. The harder you go for it, the more you are going to learn. Learn that it is not going to be easy and that you will have to go through the shit to get to the good stuff.

Unless you are will to do the 2-step (2 steps forward and 1 step back) then you will not find success. That’s it three steps, Define Success, Work Hard and Break shit. Now, what are you going to do about it?

Fail Again, Fail Better. A Secret to Success

I watched the video of Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Peter Dinklage when he delivered the June 1, 2012, Commencement address. This video of Peter who plays Tyrion in the Game of Thrones tv series inspires the hell out of me.

The entire address is great this snippet is my favorite part.

Ever Tried Ever Failed. Fail Again Fail Better.

Don’t you just love the thought of failing better? I never thought of it until this speech. I have heard the phrase fail to learn or learn to fail and I have used it most of my career. Failing better has so much more impact.

Failing better means you are going harder, bigger and crazier than you ever have. You are doing explosive things that challenge you to light up this world. Failing better means you are learning from your failures and correcting on the fly and making smarter decisions.

Most people won’t even try for fear of failure. Without putting yourself out there you can never succeed. You can’t chase your dreams if you are playing it safe. Go for it, fail for it and inspire yourself. Become the person you were destined to be and always thought you would become. Live out your daydreams by failing better.

Peter Dinklage drew a line in the sand and bet on himself. He went for it not giving himself and a backup plan. If you go for it then go for it big. Do what scares you and watch your failures turn into victories.

Stop Trying to Teach

SpeakingCollaboration.jpg

Racing through life people are quick to give advice. They are so geared up to help someone out by telling, they never stop to ask if its OK.

Early in my career, I was very guilty of this. I was constantly trying to walk people through some book I read or some seminar I went too. Luckily people tend to listen when I spoke but others did not. It was like I was trying to force this information on them. Willing them to learn. I thought if they knew what I knew then they could get the results I did.

You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself — Galileo

This quote and some sage advice from a mentor changed everything. Living your life by telling what you know never works. If you want to help others then you must create an environment of discussion. Open verbal collaboration in where personal discoveries can be made. Allowing room for deeper thinking and allowing others to add their thoughts.

Sharing wisdom is a gift but only if the audience is receptive. If you want to share your knowledge then stop teaching and start asking questions. Help people to come up with their own discoveries. When speaking to an audience tell them not to take notes on what is said. They should take notes on what they think as a result of what is being said.

Change the conversation by being a willing participant and everyone grows.

Explode With Compassion

Explode With Compassion

I have an acquaintance we call Eeyore. He walks through life as if everything is doom and gloom. It’s Chicken little the sky is falling and that makes it hard to be around him. He is a good guy just a real Debbie Downer.

As we move through life our actions and words tell a story to all the people around us. Do you inspire others or do you bring others down? Do you beat people up verbally or build them up with encouragement.

We are a flame like a torch in a dark cavern. Part of our job in life is to be the point man and light the way for others. We must keep our flame lit and feed it so it grows and explodes with badassery.

Fill your mug with knowledge, spirit, and strength and rise up. Toast to the world and conquer it this is your destiny.

If You Have A Dream Go After It.

Chase After Your Dream

Chase After Your Dream

Since an early age, I have wanted to speak in front of audiences and bring real value. Inspiring people to take action in their own lives. I loved watching others do it and I always enjoyed watching the light in someone's eyes when something resonated with them.

The only problem I had with doing this was I thought I couldn't make money doing it and it didn't seem like a real job. That one word held me back for way too many years.

Oh, what word? Job! J.O.B or Just Over Broke.

I grew up with the belief you had to have a job. You had to go work for someone else earn a days pay and rinse wash repeat. It didn't occur to me that I could do something on my own. The thought really never crossed my mind. The word entrepreneur never had a definition I understood and no one around me was doing it.

Like most people, I went from job to job living a mundane life. It was depressing and gloomy. Don 't get me wrong I have had some great life experiences and done some cool stuff. But most of my life was spent living someone else's dream. Almost like living someone else's life.

Now that I am chasing my own dream the only regret I have is why didn't I do this sooner. Why didn't investigate my dream earlier? Now I am charging after a 22-year-old dream and just getting started. My patience is crap and I want everything now. Imagine if I had 22 years of already running under my belt.

Some of us are late bloomers I get that. If you are reading this don't do what I did wait until you are 40 to chase a dream. Do what I did at 40 but do it now whatever age you are. Chase after your dream and go for it. The earlier you start the more you can compound success for the future. If you are like me and have always wanted to chase your dream but now you're older then start. Don't wait any longer, without starting you can't begin the compounding process and you will never see what you are made of.

Chase after your dreams and Run Like Hell. Look at the world and say hold my beer and watch this shit.

Anytime Life Gets Hard It Means You Leveled Up.

LevelUp.jpg

Anytime life get hard it means you have leveled up. This statement has been like a warm blanket on a cold day for me. Getting my coaching business going has been successful and trying. Like playing a game where and you just beat a boss and now you have started a new stage. You have all your skills, weapons, and knowledge you are now just taking on bigger bad guys, beasts, and uncovering new areas.

I have leveled up a few times in my life. Promotions in the Marine Corps, promotions in jobs and career changes. Every time I have moved there has been a steep learning curve. I took on jobs that were bigger than I thought I was and every time I figured it out. It wasn’t easy but we all know the saying if it was easy everyone would do it.

I think this is why people stay doing the things they hate. They don’t believe they could handle it if they were to level up. The truth is they can, they are just afraid of whom they will become along the way.

I look at it this way. Each time you level up you know you have bigger more badass weapons coming your way. Stuff that you haven’t even thought of and each level has unique tools to take on its challenges. That stuff excites the hell out of me. It helps me understand that shit is going to get tough. Odds are I am going to get my teeth kicked in a few times. At the end of the day, it’s about the grind of the level and learning to play with your new skillsets.

Your leveling up. Remember at the start of the level shit is tough you have to figure the right lanes and the new equipment. The equipment doesn’t appear you have to break shit and blow some shit up to make it happen. You may even have to start over a few times. Either way, you have to keep moving forward towards the next boss and learn how to kick his ass. Sometimes the right teammates can give you tips to get better at the level this is why we have coaches, masterminds, and mentors.

Go through life trying to hit the max level in your game. Become the #1 in the world of being you. I think you will be surprised how badass you are and what you can accomplish.

What I Learned From Journaling

What I Learned From Journaling

For years and years, I fought against journaling. Gurus, coaches, and mentors told me I need to journal. However, no matter what I tried I just couldn’t make it work. Not Journaling continued to frustrate me, so I gave up.

However, we know life happens. At one point when my career had hit a low on guidance from my coach, I decided to change my mindset and figure out journaling. I realized I was journaling to prove it didn’t work. I was trying to write from the mentality of limitations vs. a mindset of self-development.

This slight change of journaling to prove it would work helped tremendously. As I began to journal I found that I had too much crap rolling around in my head. I was bitching and moaning more about life than I thought I was, and I was more frustrated that I realized.

As I began to write, I was able to put a perspective on my gremlins and find unique ways to beat them back. My head trash became less of a thing to slow me down and more of a challenge to conquer.

As I continued to change my mindset, everything began to change as well. My perspective on life got more positive and real, and I became a less negative person. I grew more intuned with myself than I had in years past and ultimately I began to like myself. It was a fresh experience, and I started to explode in my career.

Every day I was journaling I was learning new insights and becoming more genuine and real. Life became fun, and everyone around me saw a vast difference.

What I learned from journaling was life is good. Life is great and every day is a good day. My personal demons are not that scary and I am who I want to be. I challenge you to start journaling, and maybe you can have this breakthrough discovery too.

If you want help getting started in journaling check out my free Ebook. That’s Not How You Journal, Jackass it walks you through my process of journaling.

What is your Regiment? What I Discovered When I looked at my Calendar.

Is Your Schedule Broken?

Is Your Schedule Broken?

Recently I looked at my schedule and freaked the hell out. Since starting my coaching business, I have been busy figuring everything out and learning what things I enjoy about running a business and what I hate. It has been very gratifying and surprising. I freaked out cause I had an open spot on my calendar. 3 Hours with nothing in it and it made me nervous. How could I let this happen? I was pretty hard on myself because it made me feel like I was half-assing it.

So I started looking at how I am running my coaching business to see how I could have that large of a gap in my schedule. What I discovered was I was only regimenting part of my day. I was going through a lot of motions but wasn’t creating a lot of actions.

Action drives attitude, so inaction is the decline of a company or worse a demotivator and a hit to your self-esteem. So, I decided to kick it up a notch and get more regimented with my time. I began by looking at my calendar defining where was I spending most of my time. Was I client/prospect facing or was I doing busy work? Interestingly it was both, but I was doing busy work when I should have been growing my business.

Now my schedule is way more regimented and aligned with my companies growth goals. (Which are lofty) I kept my morning routine of writing an article and posting on social media, journaling, and exercise. I changed up my times on meeting with clients and prospects and adding in more prospecting time. I improved my networking by reaching out to contacts and having conversations and referral discussions.

What is cool about this regimented change is my attitude is brighter, my outlook better and the company is growing. I just needed a good ole swift kick in the ass. Which came in the form of Timothy Ferriss’s Book, The 4 Hour Workweek.

Look at your daily regiment and see where you can improve your activities. It may be the change your business or career needs and allow you to kick some ass.

Challenge The Day

Challenge The Day

Challenge The Day

Challenge the day or seize it. Either way, today is a good day to get after it and go for it.

Often people are waiting for that perfect moment before they decide to move forward. You don’t have that luxury it will never be perfect. It will never be just right. If you keep waiting, then it will be just gone.

Lean down lace up your boots, and let’s get to work. Look forward instead of back and do something. Do anything that gets you taking action. Once you start moving, don’t stop you need the momentum to carry you through the tight spots.

Some people slow down through the holiday season. When you slow down, it destroys growth and attitude. It mentally shuts you down, and it’s like turning off the engine of your car in winter. Once the engine cools off, it can take some time to start. Keep the engine warm with activity.

Activities can be almost anything as long as it focused on growth for you. Growth can be learning, growth can be building, and growth can be helping someone else.

This day is yours to celebrate. Embrace it and go big as you can and watch what happens.

Why You Shouldn’t Go With What You Know

Mundane

Mundane

Working with one of my clients will call her Sally. Now Sally was married at 18 years old and had her first child. She wanted to work, wanted a job, so she took the first thing that was in front of her. Sally took a job at a fortune 500 being an admin something she never wanted to do. As she worked at this company, her fears became a reality. Sally hated her job, but it paid the bills.

So for 15 years, she toiled away a job she didn’t love. Why did she stay? It paid the bills albeit paycheck to paycheck. Then she got laid off, corporate downsized. 15 years of work tossed out the window. She learned some great lessons had grown in the company but didn’t survive an economic downturn.

So Sally took a risk and with some friends open a small entrepreneurial business. They ran this company for two years before they couldn’t make enough revenue to keep it going. They had to shut it down. Feeling like they gave it there all.

In frustration, Sally went and got another job for another fortune 500 as an admin. Appling all over the place, but all that Sally could find was a job she did not want.

She hated the job, and for 18 years she went to work not filling fulfilled with her life. She always felt like she had more to give. More to do but could not figure out what that thing was. At year 18 with this company, she was laid off. They moved her position out of state. 18 years she gave her all received several promotions and awards and nothing.

Now she found herself in a position of figuring out what the next venture would be. 2 grown kids and husband for over 40 years what was she going to do. By the time she got to me, she was heading down a path of coaching medical device companies how to manage their teams. She had strengths growing middle managers into leaders. It was the world she knew and even though it didn’t excite her, she felt like it was the answer to what she should do next.

As she told me what she was going to be doing I could see it in her eyes there was no sparkle. There was no joy in it. She was creating another job for herself, and she was scared it wasn’t going to be successful, and it wasn’t going to be because her heart wasn’t in it.

I asked her why to go down this path, and she responded like so many others I have coached. “its what I know.” I said, but you don’t love it. She said hell no, but it could be a paycheck.

When people look at their lives they only see whats right in front of them they don’t see the future and the impact they can have on their own life and the life of others. They focus on the now and what is the quickest means to get what they need. Isn’t that frustrating? Doesn’t that wear you out? Just trying to get by.

After talking with Sally, we discovered that she wants to keep people from making the same life choices she made. She wants to tell them that they can get out of that lifestyle and do what they love and get paid for it. And guess what? That’s what she is doing. Coaching people and speaking to audiences about how to get out of the cycle of their lives and do what they love.
How awesome is that?

Stop taking the easy path and jumping into what is in front of you. Chase your passion chase your dreams and watch what happens. Being unfulfilled in life leads to a place of sickness and depression. You are built for so much more. Go kick some ass and have fun like Sally is doing.

Why you Should Stay Future-Focused

Stay Future-Focused

Stay Future-Focused

Ever been driving along thinking about your dreams and goals. Picturing yourself in your most perfect life then WHAM reality hits that your broke and living paycheck to paycheck?

This present focus happens to a lot of people. An experiment “the marshmallow test” was conducted years ago by professor Walter Mischel. What he did was bring a bunch of 4-year-olds into a room one at a time. Mischel would then place a marshmallow in front of the child and tell them they were allowed to eat it now, but if they would wait 15 minutes before eating it, then they would be given two marshmallows.

I thought simple enough until I spent time with a four-year-old.

Here were the findings. Something along the lines of 70% of the kids ate the marshmallow immediately while 30% waited the full 15 minutes. What is the point of all this?

The kids that that waited for the 15 minutes when researchers followed up with them 15 years later had some very telling stories. These kids became higher achievers than the kids who ate immediately. In whatever field they chose academics, arts or sports they performed at significantly higher levels than the other children.

The ability to focused on Future gains or delayed gratification is one of the best indicators of success in the future.

People tend to focus on what is right in front of them instead of looking at where they are going. This is why so few people achieve their dreams. If you want to go big and hit your goals, then you have to delay gratification. Focus on the big goals and let the now take care of itself.

Get disciplined as hell knowing that the things you do today, echo in our future. You do the things now not because you must but because of the benefits of the future. Living for today is a sure fire way to go broke quickly and fail at your life’s mission.

The marshmallow study has been duplicated several times you can even find YouTube videos on it. The results remain the same 70% eat the marshmallow instantly while 30% wait the 15 minutes. Learn to delay gratification now and stay future-focused and watch how big your life gets.

How Logic Destroys Passion

Logic Destroys Passion

Logic Destroys Passion

I sat across from a gentleman today who is an awesome guy. He is caring and genuine, and he connects with people. He has been in the real estate game for a couple of years, and he sat down with me to see if I could help him grow his business.

His story was like so many others. There is not enough business coming in to justify the cost going out. Better said he needed to sell more houses. We talked about his business and figured out he didn’t have a sales problem he has a logic problem.

What I mean by logic (which is something I love) his problem was he thought a lot and did a little. Thinking, he needed more business but not taking enough action is putting him out of business.

He was running his real estate business like a part-time job. Half-assing it in hopes that it would grow by osmosis. Now truth be told he didn’t see himself as half-assing it, he thought he was working. But as we dove into it, it was pretty telling he wasn’t giving his all.

The little things he should be doing he wasn’t. They were impacting his business significantly. He has a great contact list of friends, but only 50% know what he does. He has gone to events and met people and never followed up. His social game was lacking he has a great base but not interaction. He wasn’t taking risks and was playing it safe. All of these things he acknowledged when we spoke.

Here is how we discovered it. I asked him to become his own sales manager and ask himself what would his sales manager tell him to do. His response. “Get off your ass and get out there.”

When you don’t look at our job as a business, then you only think you are working.

His thoughts were that he was intruding on people asking them out for a cup of coffee. His thoughts were that he would be seen as a sales guy if he got out there. But what we found is he has a real passion for people and has a very cool niche of people in which he can connect.

His self prescribe prescription was to do more and hold himself accountable for going big and loud. He walked away from our conversation with a mission and a gameplan and a new sense of badassery.

So let me help you out. You are a badass. Stop thinking and start doing. Action drives your attitude and courage creates confidence. If you take action, then motivation will step in and take care of the rest.

You got this, and I am excited to see how far you.

Jump Into the Fire of Your Destiny

Jump Into Your Destiny

Jump Into Your Destiny

You want to fly, but don’t want to work at it. You want to run but don’t want to get after it. You want the easy road. You want to sit back and have the riches come to you. Life doesn’t work that way. You have to move towards the flame and jump into the fire.

If you don’t want to work hard, then you better find your passion. Chasing your joy is the only way to get what you without feeling like your working hard. You will work, and you’re going to bust your ass it’s just not going to feel like work because you love what you do.

Right now you get out of bed when you feel like it not when inspiration hits you. See when you chase a dream your thoughts will inspire action which will cause you to churn ideas. Ideas that will keep pushing you towards your ultimate destiny. When you jump into the fire, your thoughts propel you towards your dreams.

Your dreams will wake you up and get you going. If you are not being woke up in the middle of the night because a thought rips through your mind and slaps your brain, then you are not going big enough.

Jump into the fire of your passion and watch it explode into your destiny.

3 Ways to Play Offense in Life — Instead of Defaulting to Defense.

Play Offense in Life vs. Defense

Play Offense in Life vs. Defense

One of the things I am learning in my business of coaching badasses is how to play offense. Changing my thought process of playing to win instead of playing not to lose. As an employee in my career, I always had the mindset of how to keep my money vs. how do I get the money.

Playing on offense is not a natural tactic for many people. Primarily if you were brought up in a household, that thrived in the paycheck to paycheck mentality. In our house it was always we will find a way vs. let’s create a method and never have to do this again. We played defense robbing Peter to pay Paul. Paying this bill waiting to hold off the collection calls until the next payday.

How do you play offense, when your entire life had, a defensive mindset. Here are three things that have worked for me.

First get a routine. A routine you do every day that is non-negotiable. Write articles, get on social media (post not read) and get out and meet people. I am still working on how to finish the day right so if you have suggestions for that I would love to hear them

2nd change your circle. Look at the people you hang out with and see if they are the growing as fast as you are. Are they inspiring you to kick more ass? Do you talk about money, investing, creating new companies? Are you discussing the latest trends and where the economy is going? If your circle is not pushing you, then it is hard to play offense, so you default to defense.
